| Concept | These pages are dedicated to the concept that meditation, contemplation, whatever you want to call it, has substantial benefits. The idea of ten thousand hours originates from an original program I wrote some years ago, ‘Contemplatio’, which was gifted and dedicated to the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, for them to share with the members of their Tucson, Arizona Contemplatio group. The program was intended as a method to time a person’s contemplation period and, hopefully, because the user has the ‘Contemplatio’ program installed on their PC, the user will remember to take time for daily contemplation. I don’t personally believe in ‘timing’ or otherwise limiting your time spent in reaching towards your higher self, God, your spiritual master or whatever you want to call your godhead and your true self, but… I also realize that in the real world, we are often forced to work within the confines of the time dimension. If, therefore, you can only ‘afford’ X number of minutes to dedicate to your spiritual well-being then so be it — ten thousand hours will help you to still have your spiritual development time while maintaining responsibility for your life on this worldly plain. |
| How-to | The ‘Contemplatio’ session begins by inviting a prayer bowl to chime and ends with another invitation to the prayer bowl to chime. When beginning the ‘Contemplatio’ session, the chiming of the prayer bowl occurs by striking the prayer bowl 3 times, each successive strike is softer than the previous. When ending the ‘Contemplatio’ session, the chiming of the prayer bowl occurs by striking the prayer bowl 3 times, each successive strike being louder than the previous. The purpose of striking the prayer bowl in this manner is that, in beginning the session, the successively quieting chimes help to center your mind without the next strike ‘startling’ you out of your already quieting mind. In ending the session, the successively louder chimes help to bring your mind back to the worldly plain without ‘jolting’ you abruptly out of your acquired calm. Other than understanding the whys and wherefores of the prayer bowl chimes, all that is left for you to do is set the maximum volume for your chimes and set the length of your intended meditation period (it is assumed that you already know how to meditate in the manner that is best suited for yourself). |
